"I’m a graphic designer and multidisciplinary artist based in Tilburg. I completed my Master of Fine Arts and Design in 2022, where I developed a particular interest in book design, print, and visual storytelling. My practice explores identity, cultural heritage, language, and personal narratives, often drawing on my Indonesian background and experiences in the Netherlands.
Since moving to the Netherlands for my studies, I have been looking for ways to preserve and reconnect with my Indonesian identity. Although English became my main language, learning Dutch felt unexpectedly familiar. One day, while grocery shopping, I began noticing Dutch words that echoed words I knew from Indonesian, such as wortel, handuk, and kaastengel. Curious about these familiar words, I started looking into their origins and discovered that many were Dutch loanwords that had become part of everyday Indonesian language.
After this discovery, I came across Rizky Kalebos on social media, where he creates content about Dutch loanwords in Indonesia. I later met him during one of his walking tours. Recognising a shared curiosity about these words and their histories, I asked him to collaborate. Together, we developed a visual guidebook exploring Dutch loanwords in Indonesia, inspired by the word “odading.”"
